Our Story

Passion for Creation
The Origin of Serza

Serza was born from the vision and passion of Sergio Zapata, an Argentine designer whose story begins in the southern reaches of Ushuaia. From a very young age, Sergio knew his vocation: to create vehicles that would challenge the boundaries of engineering and design. At the age of three, he already spoke with conviction about building cars, aeroplanes, and ships, inspired by the environment that surrounded him. By nine, he was handcrafting his own tin toys—stylised replicas of 1950s Formula 1 cars—which he shared with his friends.
During his youth, he dedicated himself to the artisanal design of vehicles, aeroplanes, lorries, and boats, utilising recycled materials and an inexhaustible creativity. In 1985, he participated in the competition of the Argentine Pilots Club, where he worked on modifying the Datsun 300ZX. Although the design was lost, it later inspired competition vehicles he saw reflected on the tracks.

In 1986, he obtained the First Prize in Civil Vehicles at Expo Hobby '86, solidifying his path as an industrial designer. His international projection began in 1992 when he participated in the International Expo Motor Horacio Pagani competition, who at that time represented Lamborghini. His design captured the industry's attention and led him to win the competition organised by the prestigious ArtCenter College of Design Europe in 1994.
In 1996, he presented the design of the Typhoon Container Ship, a vessel conceived for large-scale cargo transport, whose development extended until 2002. This project was selected among the finalists of the Rolex Award for Enterprise, where it achieved seventh place among 63 participants worldwide.
In 1999, he initiated the design of a passenger aeroplane with a capacity for 70 to 100 people, also prepared to transport three LD-3 containers. This project attracted the interest of companies such as Boeing Aircraft due to its innovative and functional approach.
In 2018, Sergio completed the design of a three-wheeled hybrid vehicle with military application, once again demonstrating his versatility and commitment to technological evolution.
Currently, Sergio Zapata is an active member of Expo-Cruise and is part of the select group of 20 international designers specialising in cruise ships.

At Serza, we channel all that experience, creativity, and passion for design into every project we undertake. Whether by land, sea, or air, our purpose remains the same as that born in Ushuaia over five decades ago: to imagine and build the future of transportation.
